Simon first came to Batumi in 2011 as one of the count coordinators leading the volunteer team on the stations, and was a BRC team member from 2013 to 2018. He worked on pulling the monitoring team together and arranging the volunteer schedules, and co-authored several BRC publications, including the paper documenting Georgia's first Egyptian Nightjar.

Preparations for this year's autumn count are in full swing and the first counters have also arrived. Luckily there was still some time to visit the Chorokhi Delta and around 70 species were observed.
