We have different opportunities for you to join the Batumi Raptor Count. The first one is to be a part as full time counter for at least 2 weeks. During this time you will live in the BRC volunteer home with other counters and the coordinators. After long days of exciting bird watching we use to sit together, join Georgian families or go to the nearby beach.
Every year we also rely on several Count coordinators, who are responsible for the practical organization and quality of the count. Their main responsibility is to have the volunteer team run smoothly, coordinate the count itself daily on one of the stations and guarantee the data quality and storage. Coordinators stay for the full season. Therefore extensive raptor migration experience, preferably also in Batumi, is required.
Applications for autumn, both for volunteers and coordinators, will open in March.
If you don't like the obligation of counting for two weeks, you can come as a visitor. We provide you with a guesthouse at a local family, you are free to go wherever you like and we even offer transport service to local bird watching spots.
We also offer student groups to participate; read more about our student exchange programme.
